Free browser strategy games with no download

Grand strategy usually means a big download, an account or a shop full of boosts. These three games skip all of that. Open the page, pick a nation and play, on your laptop or your phone.

What you do

Play at your own pace

The games are turn-based. You end each turn yourself, or let it run at 1x, 5x or 20x. A season lasts 200, 400 or 840 turns, and you can stop and pick up again whenever you like. The computer nations pay exactly what you pay and only know what they have scouted.

No download, no account, no ads

Everything runs in the browser. There is nothing to install, nothing to sign up for and nothing to buy. The page counts visits without cookies; read the privacy page for the details.

New to strategy games?

New players get Field Training: five small tasks that teach you by doing, including a practice battle. Or read the beginner's guide first.

Questions

Do I need to download anything?

No. The games run in any modern browser on desktop or phone. You can install them as an app from the browser if you like, and they keep working offline. Your saved game stays in your own browser.

Do I need an account?

No. Open the game and play. There is no sign-up, no e-mail and no login.

Are the games really free?

Yes. There are no payments, no ads and no pay-to-win. They are free, non-commercial hobby projects by Wim Kamphorst from the Netherlands.

Can I play against other people?

Not in the grand strategy games yet. What you play today is single-player against hundreds of AI nations. The mini games have duels with a friend.

Which one should I start with?

Terrastate if you like a modern setting, Romaterra for the ancient world, Ironfront for 1944. They share the same rules, so what you learn in one works in the others.
